The
Division of Criminal Justice recognizes that the moneymaking
potential of criminal activity in today's society is
so attractive that the threat and the reality of criminal
punishment are not, by themselves, sufficient to deter
sophisticated, organized criminal activity. The Civil
Remedies and Forfeiture Bureau has established an experienced
team of attorneys, investigators and support personnel
with the specific mission not to prosecute, but to use
civil techniques and the State's forfeiture and money
laundering statutes to eliminate the economic incentive
of crime by separating criminals from the proceeds and
instruments of their crimes, thereby deterring and punishing
criminal behavior, while deriving the benefit of revenues
for law enforcement. |
